Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

NATIVE AMERICAN PRAYER
I give you this one thought to keep ---
I am with you still - I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the mornings hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not think of me as gone -
I am with you still - in each new dawn.

A special bond develops between man and dog.
This happens almost instantly when eyes meet.
For those that aren't animal lovers, they will never understand this bond
But to live a life without ever knowing this pleasure, I can only say how unfortunate they are.
To those, like you and me, that consider their dogs a member of the family,
we are truly blessed to be able to enjoy this relationship.
But like any true friendship, parting is such sweet sorrow.
We expect that our children will outlive us by many years but that is generally not the case with our dogs. Their life span is much shorter than ours but that gives us the opportunity to build relationships with more than one canine friend in our lifetime.
For you who have lost your canine companion, my sympathy is sincere and endless. In all my years as a caretaker of dogs, it has been one of the hardest things I've ever had to do when I've had to say goodbye to a beloved pet.
Tears flow and my heart is heavy with the loss.
I don't know if heaven has Angels with wings of gold, or if only the good make it there. But I feel confident that if Heaven does exist, and there is an afterlife for us up there, we will be reunited with our canine companions when and if we make it there.

To Daddy Ric
The Lord saw I was getting tired,
and a cure was not to be.
So he put his arms around me,
and whispered, "Come and be With Me".
With tearful eyes you watched me suffer,
and saw me fade away.
Although you loved me dearly
you could not make me stay.
My little heart stopped beating,
my little face smiled at rest.
God broke your heart to prove
he only takes the best.
It will be lonesome there without me,
you'll miss me so each day.
I'll be lonesome without you too
but you know I had to go away.
When days are sad and lonely,
and everything goes wrong,
if you'll listen real close you'll hear
me whisper, "Cheer Up and Carry On."
Each time you see my picture,
just remember what I say,
"Don't cry, I'm in God's keeping,
we'll meet again someday."

Also from Stephen:
As I gaze up to the heavens, my eyes see a brand new glow
It just came up from Ric Ross's house; the parting was hard I know,
This new little angel Wuzie made her trip, as she was getting old.
And now she's free of any pain or summer's heat and winter's chilling cold,
Her behavior on earth was fitting for the angel that now she is
And her new Master pats her tiny head for now this Yorkie is HIS.
Wuzie lit the way for the Ross family where she brought happiness and glee
But the Lord called her back to be with him; that's the way it has to be,
So say a prayer for our little Angel Wuzie; her passing is very sad
But memories of her will linger, of all the good times that her family had.

Miss Wuzie
Wuzie was loved by so many of us - she represented the worst/best of Rescue - the worst being someone would drop her off at a shelter in her twilight years, the best being Ric giving her love and dignity to the very end. Wuzie is truly our Rescue mascot - I know she will be watching over all the other Yorkies in need as we try to help them.
